As we all know, "crime in big cities" is a racist trope. Also, "Black people commit more crimes" is also a racist trope. Black people are more often wrongly convicted of crimes.
As with most prejudice, members of the dominant group make claims about a non-dominant group without applying the same assessment to themselves. Many also make them claim, "It's true." There are many things that are true that are negative about the dominant group that members of the dominant group don't mention.
For example, most people do not say, "white-on-white crime"? Roughly 57% of crimes committed by white people are against other white people. That's a lot of crime by whites against whites.
Black people are not inherently violent. Crime patterns are driven largely by socioeconomic factors such as poverty and underfunded schools, not by race. Most people do not commit crimes, and no one commits crimes because of the color of their skin.
The "Black-on-Black crime" narrative became used especially in the 1980s, when it was used to justify over-policing in Black neighborhoods and different sentences for similar drugs like cocaine.
When the subject of racism comes up, don't say "I have a Black friend." Instead say "I stand with you against racism."
Fact check - most Black fathers are present, loving, and involved in their children's lives.

Chicago is not even in the top 15 cities with the most crime. According to Forbes, this is the ranking of cities with the most crime.

A Trump-supporting woman saying, "Black people are killing Black people" reminded me of the "Black-on-Black crime" trope. Many people respond to this trope "It's true," without questioning the framing or the omissions.
Accurate Framing and Terms
Neutral terms like "within-race crime" or "same-race crime" are accurate because they do not single out one racial group.
